The mission of Health Care for the Homeless, Primary Care Health Services (PCHS), Inc, according to their website, is “to eliminate the barriers to quality health care for every homeless person in and surrounding Allegheny County.” They have clinic sites around the Pittsburgh area, which nurses and doctors visit on a weekly schedule. Some of the serviced offered are: primary care; dental care; mental health care; Community Human Services; Connect, Inc; East Liberty Family Health Center; Family Links; First Step Recovery Homes; House of the Crossroads; Mon Yough Community Services; Mercy Behavioral Health (OSN); Primary Health Net; Salvation Army Harbor Light; UPMC; Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic; University of Pittsburgh Program for Health Care to Underserved Populations. Physicians, nurses and pharmacists from local hospitals, volunteer members of the HCHP team also teem up to help. Clinics are service-learning sites for numerous medical, nursing, pharmacy, and social work students. PCHS charges for services based on patient’s family income and size, on a sliding scale.
